Biodiversity: A Living Library

This article was written as a celebration of the weird, wonderful, and vital life that surrounds us. From a sea slug that photosynthesizes like a plant, to fungi that act like nature’s brain, and even a “bowing plant” popular with kids in Japan—this article explores how biodiversity supports our food, medicine, culture, and creativity. It also discusses the idea that DEI doesn't just apply to humans, but nature too, and implies the question; what if we included the natural world in our conversations about equity and inclusion?
At Home, But Still a Foreigner
This article is a reflection on what it feels like to grow up in Japan as a part-Japanese and still be seen as an outsider. Through a personal story about a trip to Kyoto, I share some of the quiet challenges of being mixed-race in a society where identity is often tied to appearance. It’s not about blame—it’s about opening up a conversation on belonging, unconscious bias, and the need to see identity as more than just what’s visible. If you’ve ever felt misread or out of place, this one’s for you.
