Creative Corner

Some of my side hobbies include photography - particularly ones of nature and scenery, as well as writing poetry. I have also collaborated with a friend who is an artist, inspiring each other's creativity and creating pairs of paintings and poetry.

Photography

Nature, especially flowers, have always caught my eye, and I enjoy photographing them and highlight their beauty. I also find traditional architecture to be beautiful and inspiring.

Flowers & Plants

I discovered poetry through English class in middle school when we had to write a poem. I then kept a document of various poems I'd write when the inspiration hit, and one day shared it with this friend of mine that was an artist. She found inspiration in my writing, and started to paint off of it, and I did the same by writing based on inspiration from her paintings. We have held a couple of exhibitions together, and believe that out creative collaboration is something beautifully unique. Here are some hot picks.

Phoenix

My phoenix has lived lives before me: She has fallen and risen time and time again, wiser with each rise. She whispers in my ear. Her visions come in heat waves.  It’s hot, it’s bad. It’s warm, it’s otherwise. They are hurting, they are healing, they damage. My phoenix is never wrong They say I have an old soul They say I’m 16 going on 42 My words surprise, when I only recite her words.  My phoenix has lived lives before me: She has risen from the obstacles of life still soaring and glowing with all her glory. She beams at her success but with a hint of sorrow; Knowledge is bittersweet. You know they damage, a dormant volcano waiting to spew their lava on the city below.  You sound the alarm, but it’s only a drill so you watch them burn  as you listen to their screams of anger and anguish.  They are hurt, it’s too late they wonder why they didn’t listen, they wonder why they went back. This body has seen little but she has seen it all and she ignites a fire within. But she is hurting, longing for a connection Her fire, too powerful to bond so she weeps, dimming her glory They see the only tears They do not think of why. Why must I hurt? I haven’t experienced the pain  The pain of losing a lover The pain of being sliced in half The pain of betrayal But she has and I live her pain without memories  The memories only she truly knows The horrors only she has truly seen My phoenix has lived lives before me.

A Fragile Gift

Why must a gift be so fragile? An unexpected battle no one can prepare for. And yet we are pushed to find the perfect match. First was childsplay, ignorant and innocent. No filth, no drama. Testing the waters for the future plays. Second was mild, quick but still innocent. But a friendship was severed. I learned to be wary of my energy spent. Third was interested, desired the filth and drama. Seemed to be focused but it was all a lie. The mind was elsewhere. I was nothing but a tool. Fourth was sweet, exciting and fun. But I was scared to repeat, I had no heart to give. So I retreated to the comfort of solitude. I’ve watched friends suffer. They change, they wither. Love is a poison. The feeling, an illusion. Why must a gift be so fragile?

Elephant

The hand ticks on, bringing day, night anew. Cheers of ‘later’, with the red hats we threw. The day of an end, but the day of a beginning. Looking far ahead, at our life while grinning. New is exciting - seedlings galore. New is terrifying - testing your core. But I will climb this wall - a beast, no fear. For only in fear, does your vision smear. Strength, I will build. Wisdom, I will earn. Work with the skilled, and with them, I’ll learn. An end is a time to open a door. Enter with a stride, and a prideful roar. I was born for this role - created to lead. Now watch me move forward as I plant my seed.

Love Across Dimensions

Love you I did, you were all that I had Miss you I shall, but we’re never apart Memories with you, the good and the bad Vibrant in hue, now a piece of fine art It’s too cold, I crave my end to follow You came in a dream, your embrace is warm Life is too short, a pill you must swallow Not one to sleep, peace is above the storm I awake in my bed, turn to the side You took the jar away from my weak grasp I sit up and gaze, my tears are dried Swimming to the surface, for air I gasp You smile so soft, you knew my intentions I will love you across all dimensions

Leaving the Nest

My wings spread wide as I step to the edge To capture the wind of the fiery sky The trees once black now start to retreat Exposing the freedom, void of restraint. I enjoy being in the process of becoming Perfection is dull, it signals an end. A silent chapter is no gate to growth So spread and jump, capture the wind. Your journey starts now, leaving the nest.

Gone

You saved me when I thought all good had been lost. I saved you as you cried in a lonely crowd. You stayed with me despite my frost, and I built a bridge between you and the world. To my life, you brought joy, a new sight full of colour. To you I brought safety, showed you care like no other. You’re a sister I never had, my soulmate, my light. But where have you gone ever since your first night? He loves you, he cares, and you’re happy, that’s great. What more could I want than for you to find fate. Love, as they say, has a way of bringing change. You see him as your light? But I was the one who brought you to life. You say you only have him? But I have been there through thick and through thin. You used to love hugs, but now you just shrug. I miss you dear friend, I cannot bear for an end. The constant in life is never love. Never peace. We can only move forward, there is only ever change. There is little I fear, but to lose one so dear. How could you turn and leave me to grieve when all I ever did for you was believe. But I’m fine, I’m okay. I will sit here and roam. I already know how to make hell feel like home.
